Review: The Travels of Wiglington and Wenks Virtual World (1 comment)

May 8th, 2010: This is not your ordinary game where kids just sit in front of computer screen killing off zombies or one where they are just trying to beat the boss at the end.

The Travels of Wiglington and Wenks Virtual World is an exciting new massive online virtual world for kids where players can travel to places around the world, through time and space, meet famous historical people, play fun enriching games, make new friends own exotic islands, build culture-inspired houses, wear all kinds of cool clothing and costumes, explore secret locations, solve ancient mysteries and become a legendary traveler!

Yes, I realize that this a kids’ game but parents can get a lot of out of the features as well. It is targeted at kids between 7 to 14 but fans up to 20 are playing the virtual world. It is a safe site for children where they will be learning about history, geography, landmarks, famous people, inventions, the environment, animals and more. Maybe it will even help you brush up on your history a bit.

My kids are way too young to get the true educational value of these games but I will say that I played a few like one at the post office where you drop parcels into a bin and it gets hard. So, there is a level of intensity when you play the games, but it also helps kids learn about how to match different shapes. My daughter liked all the graphics which I have to say are very appealing and I would play this game for hours if I had the time. I like that it is educational and will definitely revisit this site when my daughter is old enough to play on the computer. Well, for her anyways. You might actually find me playing on it later when the kids are sleeping because I love these types of games and who doesn’t need a little culture in their life now and then.

The virtual world features famous historical characters like Beethoven, Einstein, Edison, Wright Brothers, Abraham Lincoln, Emperor Qin, Gandhi, Darwin just to name a few. The players are given the task of looking for items related to these famous historical characters so that they can recover their memories.

“In Wiglington and Wenks, kids are regaled with facts as they travel to different locations in the world. The game will appeal to kids who love adventure and to kids who enjoy exploration and discovery games.” - 4 star rating from Common Sense Media (http://www.commonsensemedia.org/game-reviews/travels-wiglington-wenks)
