Triscuit Home Farming Blog Tour: Create Your Own Garden (1 comment)

April 15th 2010: Who doesn’t love a Triscuit? They are crunchy goodness in a cracker. I was so excited to see that they had paired with the non-profit organization Urban Farming to help Americans grow their own home gardens. I had actually seen this promotion while watching the Ellen Degeneres Show a few weeks back and thought how great it would be to start planting a garden with my kids.

When this blog tour came around, I was actually a little hesitant to enter because if you know me personally at all, I’m no good with plants. It’s a wonder that I can keep myself and the family afloat. Granted they are people and don’t need watering, but still. I have been know to kill plants that really don’t need much attention, have forgotten to water the grass for days, and somehow even managed to forget to dust the fake plants. Coincidentally, I love the idea of growing my own vegetables and herbs in a garden and would love for my kids to do the same. So, I took the plunge and signed up to do the Triscuit Blog Tour.

Lo and behold, when my box of Triscuits came with seeds for a Basil plant, I was very excited. I cook with basil all the time and my mother in law grows it in her yard and gives me some to take home when we go to visit. Now, this was my chance to get a green thumb (or at least not a black thumb) in growing a plant. I was just happy that this was easy to do and that Luci got to play in the dirt where we put the seeds.

We decided that the plant was going to go outside because we don’t have any windowsills that are a.) face the sun directly or b.) are out of reach of grabby little hands. Now that the seeds are planted the hard part will be remembering to water the plant. So far, I have watered it the two days since we have planted it. I hope that we are able to do our part in home farming and that we can have some basil to harvest ourselves in the coming weeks. I also hope that the animals or birds don’t eat my bounty.

Even if we don’t get anything out of the basil we did get a big treat from our Triscuits which were gone in a matter of seconds of opening the box! Thanks to Triscuit for taking me out of my comfort zone and possible into an urban farmer. HA!

Disclosure: “I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Triscuit and received the product necessary to facilitate my candid review. In addition, I received a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.”

Looks like a fun idea. I usually buy the basil plant already started and have mixed results. Sometimes it grows like wildfire and sometimes it can’t keep up with me. Either way my little Abby would love the experience :)
