April 25th, 2010: Up until the age of about 5 months, both of my children have had to be rocked asleep and then I do the typical MoM move where I have to hover over them in their bed and then attempt to sneak away without making a sound. This proves to be a very hard thing to do in our 104 year old house with it’s creaky floors, but I have learned where I can step and be safe.
With my first, I didn’t have the stomach to let her cry until there was a point in time when it was taking her 3 hours to fall asleep. I knew this wasn’t going to work for either us so I let her cry it out and that worked for us. It was tough at first but it paid off ten fold in the end because 2 years later, I have the best sleeper in the world.
Now, for Jake, I learned from my mistakes with Luci and started the cry it out method much earlier with him. I didn’t think it was going to work but after a week of crying in his bed for 30 minutes and then me coming upstairs and rocking him to sleep for literally 3 minutes, he has finally gotten the hang of falling asleep on his own (unless it’s a fluke). For the past 3 days and nights, when I lay him down for a nap or bedtime, within minutes he is sleeping. I have caught myself going to check on him much more to make sure everything is ok because it was just odd that all of a sudden he learned how to fall asleep on his own!
Anyways, the other day, I received the Tender Lullabies: Soothing Classic Piano Melodies CD from BeFit-Mom and if I had not already sleep trained my kids this would have been key. For the past couples days, I have noticed that the songs have been calming to both my children and have played it before bedtime. It was even so calming that I thought I could have fallen asleep at 8pm with the two of them.
The reason that it is so calming is that unlike other baby CDs, each heartwarming selection of Tender Lullabies is played at 60 beats per minute (resting heart rate) which in just minutes, naturally slows baby’s heart and respiration rates, bringing on sleep.
Better yet, repeated use of the CD at nap and bedtime creates a biofeedback loop, so that babies learn to associate sleepiness with the music. Overtime, baby fall asleep more and more quickly as the stimulus/response pattern deepens.
I would highly suggest this CD to anyone trying to sleep train their infants, or even as the winding down portion of your bedtime routine. Another great aspect to the CD, for those of you who use it to get their baby to sleep is that you will be able to leave your baby with a sitter and then CD and your baby will fall asleep with someone other than you.
Thanks to BeFit-Mom for this great CD, the music is great for my kids and plus it is classical music so it’s get their brains working as well!
