Find out about the MoM behind the business:
My name is Jennifer Covello, mother of two children. I started my business in 2008 while working a full time job and being a single parent. After being laid off in early 2009, I have devoted most of my time to being with my children and growing my business, Frittabello. I spent nearly 25 years in the corporate world and am loving being on my own. I grew up in Long Island and am one of 6 children.
Tell us about your family:
I have two children, a boy (12) and a girl (9).
What is your business and how did it get started?
The name of my business is Frittabello, LLC. It got started in 2008 with the idea of creating a baby journal for parents to record the story of their child’s life. The award-winning “My Life” baby journal was my flagship product and was announced in October 2008. I then expanded the product line in December 2009 with a line of 100% organic baby layette apparel, stationery, and baby gift sets called “From the Heart”. I just announced my new children’s book – “Frittabello and his Angel” on April 25, 2010. It will soon be available for purchase on my website.
Between Family and Work, what is your “typical” day look like?
During the week, I take my kids to school in the morning, work on Frittabello until it’s time to pick them up. Then it’s either homework/shower/bed or homework/sports activity/bed or homework/meetings for Mom’s volunteer activities or networking/bed!
What keeps you motivated?
Knowing that all of my baby gift products were born of inspiration from my angels and that people love them.
What are your biggest struggles with your business?
My biggest struggle is that it’s just me doing everything. I miss my ‘team’ when I was in corporate that I could delegate tasks and projects to without it costing me anything!
And on the flip side, what is your biggest accomplishment?
My biggest accomplishment is that I created this business as a single mom, expanded it while being laid off, and that both of my kids are doing well and proud of their mom.
What advice do you have for other MoMs and DaDs in small business?
Be realistic and have a plan. If you can hire help, do so, but be diligent about this person’s background. Watch the pennies and don’t overextend yourself.
Do you have any long term goals for your business?
My long term goals for Frittabello are to take it national to large upscale retailers like Macy’s or Bloomingdales.
What are you three favorite websites?
www.frittabello.com, www.frittabello.com, www.frittabello.com. Ha Ha!
Anything else you would like to add!
I’m also a frequent blogger for Working Mother on their Mom Blog.
