Help ease eczema with… BLEACH?
That is what I heard anyways. My sister in law actually emailed me the other day with a very interesting article about this. I am so skeptical though. How can a harsh chemical be good for my children’s skin!? My kids both have eczema really bad, but my little girl even more than my boy. Her feet were so bad one time that they were bleeding so badly and she could not stop itching them. It was horrible! I brought her in numerous times to get first, second and even third opinions and each dermatologist said the same thing, “Eczema“. She has had so many different prescription topical ointments and I have used every single lotion and ointment on the market. NOTHING has helped.
So, back to the article…
Researchers from Northwestern University said in a news release: that diluted bleach baths can ease the red, itchy skin that can get so cracked it becomes an opening for infections. Still I ask, HOW??? I would think that BLEACH would irritate the skin and cause it to hurt
and sting???
Researchers said, that since the bleach is so deluted in the bath water (only 1/2 of a cup of bleach is used in the bath), no one reported a problem with the smell and these baths prevented flare ups in kids ages 6 months to 17 years. Oh, and the researchers also said that people with eczema on their face could tolerate closing their eyes and dunking their heads in the water! I know that the ointments that I get at the pedi office have some harsh ingredients in them, but am I willing to put my child in a bath with bleach in it? I think, no. I am very skeptical of this. I am on the fence about this one. What do you think? Have you used bleach in your child’s bathtub to treat eczema? If not, would you? Why or why not? I am curious as to what other Mommy’s think.
