Let’s face it moms, most of us suck at nurturing ourselves. Sure we can be great moms, wives, friends, bosses, coworkers, etc., but when it comes to ourselves, we tend to let things slide. When we try to do something nice to treat ourselves, we spend most of the time thinking about our children and what we are missing out on. However, spending so much time only on others leads to more stress and deterioration of our bodies. Getting some Mom-ME time is so necessary for us to live Happy and Healthy lives. Here is what you can do to ensure that you are taking care of yourself for a change:
  • Establish a minimum of 15 minutes of each day for your Mom-ME time. Considering that there are 1440 minutes in a day, this should be a do-able task.
  • Use your Mom-ME time to exercise, read, meditate, treat yourself to a little indulgence, or whatever it is that makes you feel happy about yourself.
  • Plan ahead, so that there are no interruptions during your time. Do it when your baby is taking a nap, when your kids are in school, really early in the morning before anyone wakes up, or secure a temporary babysitter if necessary.
  • In addition to your Daily 15 , you should also plan out some extended Mom-ME time at least once a month or weekly if possible to go shopping, get your hair/nails done, go to the gym, take a walk in the park by yourself (which can be really peaceful), or treat yourself to lunch.
Of all of these recommendations, it is important to note that they should be done alone. Sure friends can be supportive, but time with them is not Mom-ME time because it can quickly become time about them. Keep that time separate. You might be thinking, “I don’t like being alone” or “Being alone is boring, ”  but realize that if you are not comfortable in your own skin, you are not truly comfortable with anyone else. You need to be a mom to yourself and nurture yourself so that you can be better prepared to nurture others.
