I recently did an interview with Christine from GoGoMamaGo.com on her 5 questions for online business women whom she features for being a Mom and an Entrepreneur. If you would like to participate in these 5 questions and see who else she has interviewed (including some other LivingMyMoMent MoM) contact her at christine@gogomamago.com.
5 Questions is a new series where online business women are asked 5 questions about being a mom and entrepreneur. To be featured, please contact me.
Abbey Fatica is the founder of Living My MoMent!, a one stop for free advertising and support for mom businesses and blogs.
1. What or who inspired you to start your business?
The way that LivingmyMoMent.com came about was when I became a SAHM and realized that I needed some extra income coming into our family since I was not working. I thought and thought about a business venture that I could take on but nothing was coming to mind. Then one day, I was thinking about the economy and was watching something (probably Oprah) about how people were losing their jobs left and right. I was grateful that my husband was still working and made enough for me to be able to stay home to take care of our daughter.
So I thought, what kinds of people do I need to reach out to and being a Mom, I first thought of other Moms and then realized that I wanted to help the ones that were trying to do the same thing that I am doing. The birth of livingmyMoMent is for all the Moms out there trying to Work at Home and be a Mom at the same time.
2. What motivates you?
Making myself work hard on my website comes from the support that I get from my husband. He and my daughter motivate me to strive and make this the best that I can make it and not give up. We also have another baby on the way and I would love to be able to financially afford to stay home and take care of my kids which is another reason that I want to succeed.
3. How do you balance being a mom and an entrepreneur?
Now that this website is off the ground and running and I have worked out most of the kinks, just making tweeks here and there, I am able to work on the website when my daughter is napping (for three hours, ahhh) and when she goes to bed. But honestly, I can get most of my work done for the day during her naptime cause by the time it starts getting dark out my unborn child reminds me to rest. I also make sure that I only work 5 days a week, so that I have 2 days devoted to the family.
4. What do you love most about what you do?
I love that I am able to help MoMs get free advertising for their businesses so that they can also succeed. I also love that I can blog about things that are going on in my life that are also relavant to what is going on in someone elses. I feel that if I touch one person with my blog for the day then I have done my job. I love the flexibility that I have to work when I am able but it never feels like work because it is so enjoyable seeing what other MoM’s ideas are.
5. What single piece of advice would you give someone who is starting out?
It took me awhile to figure out what I wanted to do, but as soon as I knew I was so gung ho about the whole project. Sometimes I have to remind myself what that original feeling is like when I feel like I want to quit or think that maybe this just won’t work. Do what you love because you love doing it and the money will follow. If you focus too much on the financial aspect you will get too caught up in that and forget about the reason you love your product.
